Madrid, 3 July 2023. The European Commission has published the results of the fourth call of European Universities 2023, of the Erasmus+ program. With 44 participating universities, Spain is the third country with the most European consortium institutions.
In the first call in 2019, 11 Spanish universities were selected; in the second (2020), 13; in the third (2022), 7 universities -three in consortia extension and four in new ones-, while in the 2023 call 13 higher education institutions have been selected (8 in consortia extension and 5 in new alliances).
Spain is followed by France and Germany, with 13 and 11 new participating universities, respectively. In total, the European Universities initiative has 50 alliances involving 430 institutions from 35 countries (EU members plus Iceland, Norway, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey).
The European Commission has allocated a record budget of €402.2 million to this latest call under the Erasmus+ 2021-2027 program. In the same way as in the previous 2022 call, this time the funds have been allocated, on the one hand, for the consolidation of partnerships selected in the 2020 call, and, on the other hand, for the extension of partnerships to new members.
In autumn 2024, the Commission will publish the fifth Erasmus+ call for proposals, with the aim of extending the universities to 60 partnerships by mid-2024.
