Crue receives partner award for supporting Azerbaijani universities in the ECAR Project

May, 23. 2023. Crue Spanish Universities received a special recognition from Baku Business University, as coordinating institution of the ECAR Erasmus+ Funded Project, for its institutional support to the establishment of a Rectors’ Conference in Azerbaijan. The delegation of Crue, headed by Prof. José María Sanz, President’s Delegate for European Affairs, received this award in Baku on the occasion of this university’s 30th anniversary.

Prof. Sanz received the award from Ibad Abbasov, Rector of Baku Business University, and thanked BBU on behalf of Crue for this recognition and for coordinating the ECAR project with the aim of fostering national networking and cooperation among universities and other stakeholders. He expressed the importance of establishing national university collaboration with the aim of building the capacity of universities and of improving the overall quality of the Spanish Higher Education System, as well as of creating a collaborative environment for mutual learning. Finally, on behalf of Spanish universities, he hoped ‘that the excellent collaboration within the ECAR project will just be the beginning of a very fruitful future cooperation that will benefit both our university systems’.

After receiving this award, Crue’s representatives participated in a coordination consortium meeting of the ECAR Project, during which participants addressed the progress in the different work packages of the project, including the constitution and strategic planning of the different working committees on Student Affairs, Academic Affairs and Research and Innovation. Furthermore, the project partners addressed the organization of the upcoming Study Visit to Spain, organized by Crue Spanish Universities on the 10-14th July, where participants will be able to share activities, priorities, and initiatives on student affairs, as well as the importance of coordination and inter-sectoriality.

About ECAR Project

The Establishment of a Rectors Conference in Azerbaijan (ECAR) project aims to foster national networking and cooperation between Azerbaijani universities and all stakeholders by establishing the conference of rectors in accordance with national development strategies.

The specific objectives of the project include a review of the models, the organizational structure, operation, objectives, and missions of other European Rectors’ Conferences, for which the project counts with the participation of Crue Spanish Universities, as well as of the Rectors’ Conferences of Poland (CRASP), France (France Universités), Lithuania (LURK) and Portugal (CRUP), and from the European University Association (EUA), among other.

The ECAR project has been selected by the European Commission within the Erasmus+ call, as a strategic association for higher education. Project activities will run until December 2023.
